Gone are the days when a pair of gloves was just a plus to your riding outfit and nothing else. these days many of them will have extra features that help protect the rider’s hands. With the best riding gloves, you can ride without hurting your palm and without losing control.
However, you should be careful to make a conscious choice of gloves since some manufacturers just add extra features as gimmicks designed to advertise their products. However, there are some features that do make a difference.
#1 Grip dots
One of the most important purpose of a riding gloves is to prevent the rider from falling off the horse’s back. A good grip is necessary to ensure the safety towards the rider throughout the race. For this reason, the good gloves should have grip dots.
They are made of rubber or silicone and cover the palm and the fingers position of the gloves. If you have the leather gloves, then the grip dots are not necessary as they are naturally grippy.
#2 Waterproof
If you are living in the rainy climate, then the waterproof gloves can be great. However, unless you use leather gloves and other naturally waterproof material, you should consider when choosing as waterproof gloves may not breathable.
#3 Extra patches
The greatest reward a riding glove can give is comfort. Some gloves will have extra padding that are attached in high use areas such as those between the ring and little finger as well as around the thumb and index finger.
The extra layer also helps the gloves last for much longer, they can ever twice as long in some cases.
#4 Wrist closure
It is obvious that wrist closure can be included or not, however, personally, I would like to recommend you should use a glove that can secure around your wrists, this will help to keep them in place. There are some different types of wrist closure such as velcro, buckle, poppers, buttons, ribbon.
#5 Double stitching
No one would want to buy a pair of gloves every month. This feature makes riding gloves more durable even on an intense ride. It will not easily break and can be worn in the long run.
